Greetings in the name of our gracious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! We are delighted that you have chosen to visit our website and we pray that you will be informed and blessed with what you discover here. Please check out the many links and take the time to listen to some excellent messages. We invite you to visit our website as often as you are able to keep abreast with what is happening here at the Penticton Church of the Nazarene.
We also invite you to come and visit us at our church and participate in worship with us or contact us at anytime if we can be of service. One of life's greatest pleasures is the opportunity to meet new people and cultivate lasting friendships. That is especially true in a growing church like ours, so we endeavour to never take lightly the people that God brings across our path.
We are a blended church that caters to the whole family from babies to grandparents. Our services are designed to meet the needs of the entire family with a fully staffed nursery, Sonbeams for ages 3 - 5 and Children's Church for the older kids. Our worship services consist of contemporary praise and worship and classic hymns combined with dynamic and powerful sermons that challenge the spiritual life of all who follow Jesus. Through our worship, fellowship, discipleship, evangelism and various growth groups and ministry programs we offer numerous opportunities each week to connect with God and other believers, grow in Christ-likeness and serve God.
We believe that our purpose here is "Loving People to Freedom in Christ" and we are always blessed when meeting new friends. We pray that God will pour out His richest blessings upon your life today and we look forward to seeing you soon!
The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, tracing its roots to an anniversary date of 1908. It was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) across the lands. Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 155 world areas.
The Church of the Nazarene is a Great Commission church. We believe that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life, and the promise of heaven when life is over by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are called to take this message to people everywhere.
The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe that Christians can experience a deeper level of life in which there is victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
The church of the Nazarene in Canada started in 1902 with a single congregation in Oxford, Nova Scotia. Since then, it has spread across the country, until now when almost 200 churches and missions serve in all of the Canadian provinces and territories.
The Penticton Church of the Nazarene began in 1949 in a one room church on Van Horn Street with the arrival of our first Pastor Warren Boyd. A small church was purchased in 1949 on the corner of Ellis street & Eckhardt avenue with eleven charter members working hard to get the church established.
The church experienced good numerical growth and it became evident that the current building and property was no longer large enough so in 1970, under the guidance of Reverend Cyril Palmer, new property with a parsonage was bought at the current location on Jermyn Avenue.
Under the leadership of Reverend Henry W. Houseman a new building was built and dedicated in 1976. The mortgage was burned in 1988 with the farewell of Reverend Bill Bahan, who successfully spearheaded the project to have the property paid for prior to his departure. Reverend Neil Allenbrand and his family arrived shortly after to provide leadership and continued guidance to the present day.
Colossians 1:27 (New International Version)
"To them God has chosen to make known among the gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ Jesus in you, the hope of glory."
"Loving People to Freedom in Christ"
At the Penticton Church of the Nazarene it is our dream that all might know and participate in "the glorious riches of this mystery". We are blessed with a gifted pastoral team with hearts of compassion for those who don't know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Pastor Neil uses his gifts to reveal the mystery in simple yet profound ways and it is his and our desire to make a difference in the lives of all whose paths we cross.
We endeavour to love people to freedom in Christ through many means by meeting spiritual, emotional and physical needs while remaining intellectually honest in the message that is presented. We believe that we need to give of ourselves to make a difference in the lives we touch and we do this by committing our time, finances and other resources to tangibly touch the lives of a world that is hurting and in need.
While our community consists of those that are already part of our congregation it also encompasses the people of our city, our country and also people around the world. Our Sunday morning service is a time of celebration and sharing of God's glorious riches given to us. During the week there is opportunity for men, women, children and families to meet together in small and sometimes large groups to share, fellowship together, be discipled, mentored or be a mentor to someone else.
